Googledygook
October 12th, 2007Google controls search, it controls video through YouTube and it now controls news! We run a Technology and Science News feed on our website and gosh!.. All four news items were about Google….Blinkx challenges Google in video ad arena…Google rules internet search world: com Score study…Google buys Finish startup Jaiku….Gooogle launches video ad program using YouTube (see below)

Is there no end to Google’s talents? Most people are talking about Google…we should all now start speaking googledygook: I will define this as a language (usually unintelligible) spoken by someone trying to cram a lot of the word ‘google’ into a statement - maybe to show some affection for the technology behemoth or to loath it or even just to brag to colleagues or whoever cares to listen about how smart you are (or think)! Google polarizes opinions: You either love or hate it…Like the famous Marmite adverts.
Check out this example of googledygook:
‘We are now developing a Google-like video ad solution to challenge YouTube. Our solution will defeat Google’s dominance in search which will generate a lot of ad revenue for our shareholders, who have sworn an oath never to allow a Google buy in!’
Well I managed to squeeze in 3 Googles into the above statement…I wonder if you could do better…I am no expert in googledygook..

June 24th, 2007So the government will ban smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces in England from the 1st of July 2007 (1) …big deal! Why alienate decent law abiding citizens for the nebulous goals of reducing smoking in adults from 28% in 1996 to less than 24% by 2010; or reducing smoking in pregnant women from 23% in 1996 to 15% or less by 2010; or reducing smoking in children from 13% in 1996 to 9% or less by 2010.

May 6th, 2007The roles and qualities of an evangelist - a non-religious subtext
April 29th, 2007by Kazeem Olalekan MRPharmS MBCS
Introduction:
Evangelism is a Christian movement for emphasizing personal conversion and the authority of the Bible or, by extension, any other form of preaching or proselytizing [ 1 ]. An evangelist may therefore travel from place to place, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Evangelism, as a concept, has been used in non-religious subtexts especially in IT and Marketing. A notable example is Guy Kawasaki, credited as being one of the first to use evangelistic methods to promote the Apple Macintosh computer platform [ 2, 3 ]. In his book: ‘Selling the Dream’, Guy Kawasaki describes evangelism as the process of convincing people to believe in your product or idea as much as you do [ 4 ] . A significant majority of Technology companies on the US Fortune 100 Best Companies to work for in 2007 has someone employed as an evangelist either to promote a specific product line or to promote the company in general [ 5 ].
I will now attempt to describe the different roles and qualities of an evangelist in a general, non-religious context whilst exploring any religious, psychological and motivational underpinnings.
